Dining Room:  Before

My beautiful antique buffet was suffering in this icky room.  We did just find this pretty rug at Home Depot....so that's 2 good things going on in here.

There's just so much wrong going on in here....wine bottle border, yellow paint, burlap wallpaper, stiff and stodgy green and brown curtains, a brashy brassy chandelier...

Oh, buffet, we'll rescue you soon from this 1980's vinyard look.

The keyboard needs to go someplace else, obviously.

99 bottles of wine on the wall...well actually just the same 4 repeated over and over and over.  Why?

Dining Room:  In Progress...

Thanks to my dad for helping us get this project going!!  It was our Christmas gift.  I chose it over a trip to Asheville and the Biltmore Estate.

The burlap wouldn't come off, so we covered it with bead board.

It was a lot of prep work taping everything up.

Dad and Dan replacing that brass thing with this pretty light.

...ah, my eyes aren't being blinded now.

Painting the blah wood trim creamy white.

The color flows much better now instead of being chopped by the wood outlines.

A much more respectable place for my buffet now....it stands out so nicely.

The rug works with the walls and trim.

Finding colors within the rug to work with for other items such as curtains.

Found curtains and sheers at Bed, Bath and Beyond that work very well and the price was right too.

These are black out curtains for those afternoons when the sun's beating in, but for the most part, we leave them open for the filtered light through the airy sheers.

This is our new dining room set...a butterfly leaf table and 6 chairs from Rooms To Go.  It's very comfortable and durable and can expand to seat 8-10.  If you don't go with an antique table to go with the buffet, then you must coordinate with the walls.  This cottage style has seats and the wood top matches the buffet and the rest match the creamy trim work.

I found this little gem one day while a friend and I were just browsing antique shops after doing girl scout stuff for our girls.  I saw this china hutch and knew immediately that it would be perfect in our dining room.  The scale is just right for the corner without taking over the room.  The price wasn't bad either, plus I was able to talk them down about 10% and putting it on lay-away made it very easy to pay for.

Once Dad got here for our yearly visit, we were able to put this in his big truck and haul it home quite easily.  I am in the process of cleaning it up and trying to figure how to place the adjustable shelves for our china, crystal, depression glass and various precious pieces I want to display in it.
