Who is this sweet little old lady? Molly really got into her role playing a little 100 year old lady on the 100th day of school. Everyone in school dressed up as old folks for the day and played games with 100 as the theme.
We found a shawl and purse at a thrift store, the glasses and cane came from Amazon.com and the beaded glasses chain from the dollar store. We made her hair gray with a dollar store hairspray. Inside her purse were shiny pennies and hard candies to give to people throughout the day.
In this photo, she's wearing my grandmother's old gray coat.
Here are some other dress up days:
Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham Day
Favorite Character Day (Annie from the Magic Treehouse series)
We are lifelong fans, not bandwagon ones. We live in Knoxville, Tennessee where Peyton is a local UT Vols hero since '98. Lots of people here became Broncos fans since he signed on in 2012. I've been asked if I'm a fan because of Peyton. I say "No, but I'm sure glad to have him on our team for as long as possible. I've been a fan off and on since '83 or so when I lived in Denver." I think Peyton was 7 years old at that time! I have a feeling that we are about to head back into some lean years as the pendulum inevitably will swing the other way now. This has been a great ride and we're still letting it all sink in...that win against the Patriots was glorious...then the Superbowl was amazing. What a way to bow out gracefully and on top. I get chingles just thinking about it...yes, chingles...chills and tingles. I think it's called "joy."
18 is a good number. And after 18 years, "our guy" as he is known in our house is retiring from the NFL and our beloved Broncos. Living in Knoxville, Tennessee is the next best thing to being in Denver if you are a Broncos fan. Since Peyton Manning has been the quarterback for our team, these last 4 years, being a fan in Tennessee is great. He's kind of a big deal around here.
His speech was extraordinary, humble, gracious, funny and sad. The timing of his retirement is too perfect with the golden 50 Superbowl win to cap it off, with the many records won this year and the poetic 18 years for number 18 himself. Pretty amazing.
This is one of his Tennessee Vols jerseys we saw at Jack's BBQ in Nashville last year. The Colts fans near us were going on about how they got the better deal with Andrew Luck, to which I thought to myself "um, ok." Think our guy did just fine.
Game days at our house looks kind of like this.
Even Lizzie and Alice wear their fan gear too...and we drink Orange Crush in Bronco cups.
Before the Superbowl Molly and Dan played some video games together.
Wearing her lucky jersey.
Several years ago, at Dan's parents' house in our gear, ready for a game.
The first thing Dan ever bought for Molly was a baby Broncos fan gear with a bib, long sleeve and short sleeve set. This was long before we knew if we were having a boy or a girl...didn't matter she wore it well.
This cup was purchased by me way back in the '80s when I lived in Denver...I think I got it at Mile High Stadium. Yes, I was a fan before I met Dan...maybe it's why he first liked me. Good thing I wasn't a Raiders or Patriots fan or Molly might never exist.
The ever present image in our life. The much used and loved Bronco pillow on a long car trip with a sleeping kid in the back seat.
Must have been a game day...here's Molly playing cards with Grandma.
This football is very important. She holds it while Denver has possession and when they don't, she throws it away. When they get it back, she runs over, grabs it and holds tight so they don't fumble. Seriously, this happens...the kid is learning football much earlier than I did.
Proudly flying our flag on a game day.
Back in 2004 I think...at Mile High Stadium. This was taken by a very nice Miami Dolphins fans. I am wearing my old orange Broncos sweatshirt, from the 80's I might add. However, I did not have a decent jacket in the appropriate colors. They may have thought we were Dolphins fans judging from my poorly chosen winter coat. This was a freezing game and our seats were to the right of the horse statue on the very tippy top right corner. Froze our butts off that night, but it was fun to be there...though I did miss my onscreen graphics and replays.
Our sweet Zip lounging on the famous Bronco pillow back in the day. Miss you buddy boy. Our orange wedge kitty.
No, we are not bandwagon fans jumping on board with the latest winning team or because of a legendary player that we'll truly miss. We'll be fans when they lose their way with a new lineup of players, new staffs, new coaches, when they lose and when they win. That's what true fans do.
This is a way for our friends and family far and wide to keep up with what is going on in our world.
In 2007, we moved from Albuquerque, NM to Richmond, VA. Our daughter, Molly Rose was born in April of 2008. Once again, in February 2010, we were faced with a job change and moved to Knoxville, TN where Dan is working at ORNL in Oak Ridge. I am working as a teacher assistant / substitute at 2 nearby preschools.
